The graduate of Human Kinetic and Health Education and former Miss Environment said her non-governmental organisation, For A Better Environment (FABE) was establish to ensure a healthy and clean environment for Nigerians aswell as to enlighten them that whatever they do to their environment has a consequence either positive or negative.
“For instance, we let people know that throwing refuse into the rivers and defecating in them are bad habits that are detrimental to health because the fishes will eat these items and they in turn will consume the fishes. We want a situation whereby people will stop littering our oceans with all sorts of dirt,” she said.
She said the cleaning of the lagoon front was also to create awareness among students that they can equally generate income from waste.
In his remark, former Dean of Students’ Affairs of the school, Prof. Kayode Amund explained that solid materials like plastics should not end up on the streets but be molten and re-fabricated into various other useful items likewise organic wastes like foods as well as animal waste like cow dung can be used to produce bio-gas for cooking and heating.
He said Nigerians didn’t have to be poor if they applied their entrepreneurial skills, saying what people should do is to think outside the box because nature has a way of recycling itself.
