TECH CORNER: WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE? GIONEE M5, INFINIX HOT S
OR A TECNO CAMON C9
A Tech analysis on the three most sought after phone brands in
Nigeria.
Tecno, Gionee and recently Infinix have in recent years made
Africa their target zone. They have built various devices with customized specs
suiting the demands of the African and more specifically Nigerian consumption.
These companies though based in China, have made Africa they’re focus. With
their low cost yet super features, they’ve gradually won the heart of the
average Nigerian.
The war for dominance between these brands is quite heated
with each of them trying to outclass the other with newer releases. But each of
these brands stick to certain trademark features that make them standout in a
way from the other.
Gionee is revered for their near excellent battery pack, from
the era of the M2 and so on, they’ve stood out in terms of battery life.
Infinix has been top of the game in terms of fast charging and
general optimal phone performance. Their OS which they now term XUI have been
positively received with stock ROMs customized to almost every users taste.
They roll out updates almost on a monthly base and they improve system
performance and stability with each update. More recently, they’ve greatly
improved on their battery packs starting from the hotnote period (which became
widely demanded and sought after).
Tecno have been good enough in terms of camera and video
performance, they also have an impressive OS even though they almost never roll
out any updates. Of the three brands they are arguably the cheapest, perhaps
that’s why they continue to top the chart of most consumed device brand.
Today, we look at three new phones that were released almost
at the same time, comparing them is pretty much what we are going to do now.
Let us start with the Gionee M5.
A quite bulky and heavy
device built with a 5.5’ AMOLED 1280p resolution, pretty great for watching
movies, comes with the android lollipop 5.1 version unfortunately not
upgradeable to the marshmallow(6.0). It runs on a mediatek 1.5ghz CPU and it
boasts a 3gb ram and a 16gb internal storage memory. That is one dope memory
for gaming and multi-tasking.! It claims a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP front
camera. Pretty decent for selfies. And now it’s star feature, it is armed with
a 6020mAH battery pack! They claim a 3day run period on fair usage. Can you
beat that? Well, it was not programmed with any of the latest security feature
like the iris scanner or more recently the fingerprint sensor. So if you’re a
security freak like me, this will surely disappoint you a bit. Besides that
though, this device sure gives you an awesome value for your money. Right now,
the M5 costs around 70k depending on your location.
The Camon C9 is a sleeker model with the same 5.5’ LCD display
though with a 1080p resolution a little ess than the gionee counterpart. On a
superior base now, it is equipped with the latest android 6.0 marshmallow
update and built with the hioS UI. It runs on a superior 1.5ghz octa-core
processor and although it has a smaller RAM (2gb) it still has a 16gb internal
storage. It’s trademark feature being it’s camera, is equipped with a 13MP(megapixels)
on the primary and secondary camera.! Unrivalled selfie images on the go.
The Camon
boasts an excellent night viewing imaging that may be arguable or contested.
With a 3000mAH battery, I can only call it fair. And for latest technology
security, it is equipped with a powerful iris scanner. A cool new eye scanning
protection.! As a proof of it’s cheap value, the camon C9 is available from
around 44k.
The last and definitely not the least, the infinix hot S.
launched this August, has seen a tremendous improvement from the previous
infinix devices. With a slightly smaller screen resolution which stands at 5.2’
and way lighter than the previous two devices. Runs on the marshmallow android
version and a superior Helio 1.8ghz CPU. Like the M5, it boasts a 3gb RAM and a
16gb internal storage. It possesses a 13MP primary and an 8MP secondary camera.
Even though it carries a smaller 3000mAH battery, it boasts a 30min charge in
far contrast to the C9 which also has a 3000mAH battery, but completes charging
more than an hour after. In the subject of security, it possesses a high
sensitive fingerprint scanner. Depending on your location, the hot S is
available from 52k to around 60k.
So starz... what's it going to be?
